The Fifth Commandment

Standard

“Honour your father and your mother; so that your days may be long on the land which Yahweh your Father has given you.” Exodus 20:12

This is the only commandment that has a promise attached to it. The apostle Paul reiterated this decree from Almighty Yahweh:

“Children, obey your parents in Yahweh, for this is right. ‘Honour your father and mother’; which is the only commandment with a promise. So that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Ephesians 6:2-3

It is important to obey your parents, respect them and honour their rules while living under their roof. This should also extend to the parents of your friends and relatives. After you are grown up and move out of home, you should continue to respect your father and mother, and help them in their old age.

The kind of assistance depends on their needs:

If they are financially able, you do not have to give them money, but you can buy them gifts.

If they need financial assistance, arrangements should be made — with all siblings chipping in — to provide for them.

If they are too old to live on their own or manage household chores or errands, you can either invite them to live with you or move them to an elderly people’s home, or hire a housekeeper for them.

When they are sick, you should care for them.

Visit them often and let them spend time with their grandchildren, especially during vacations.

Parents also have a great responsibility toward their children. Discipline is important, and children should be taught good manners, kindness, respect and obedience.

“Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.” Proverbs 29:15

“Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.” Proverbs 19:27

However, there’s a fine line between discipline and abuse, and respect should go both ways, with parents honouring their children’s individuality and understanding that they too, require privacy. There should be boundaries as to how intrusive a parent can be in a child’s life.

What if a parent or both parents are sexually, verbally or physically abusive, rude, disrespectful, and mistreat you as a child or young adult? Do you have to care for them in their old age?

It is not wise to remain in a toxic environment or associate with people who are nasty to you. In this case, the best thing to do is:

Maintain a respectful distance from your parents — you do not have to visit them or invite them to your home, functions or send your children to visit them.

As long as you do not insult them or disrespect them, you have the right to exclude them from your life.

If they require monetary assistance, you can offer to help them, but you do not have to.

If they apologise for their past evildoing, and are genuinely contrite, you can choose whether or not you still want them to be a part of your life.

You are under no obligation to maintain a relationship with parents who are abusive.

If one of your parents was abusive or mistreated you, and you’re wondering if you should cut him/her off and include the other one in your life, ask yourself: “Was he/she aware of the cruelty and did not intervene?” If the answer is yes, then he/she also contributed to your misery.

“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of Yahweh.” Ephesians 6:4

Marriage in Scripture

Standard

The first marriage recorded in the Holy Book is that of Adam and Eve.

“The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman’, for she was taken out of man.’ That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” Genesis 2:23-24

One flesh refers to sexual unity, but also to the deeper spiritual unity between a husband and wife in wedlock.

Nowhere in the Scriptures is it recorded that the Hebrews held marriage ceremonies in the temple, or exchanged rings or wore engagement rings. However, it is alright to have a reception and celebrate the union with friends and family if one can afford to.

Yahshua attended a wedding reception in Cana, a city of Galilee in northern Israel:

“On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Yahshua’s mother was there, and Yahshua and His disciples had also been invited to the wedding.” John 2:1-2

We know it was a feast because they were drinking wine and verse 9 mentions the ‘master of the banquet’.

So how do we, as Believers, ensure we are properly united so as not to live in sin?

A couple is married in the Eyes of Yahweh when the marriage is consummated on the wedding night; and married in the view of the state when the marriage is legally registered.

Once you are certain you have met the right partner, the proper way to go about it is to introduce your intended spouse to your family and meet their family as well, to let them know of your intention to become a couple. In some communities, a dowry (bride price) is requested.

Before you sleep together or even move in together, you should legalise the union, to ensure you are both committed to one another for the long-term, and to make it official.

Having your marriage legally recognised also helps avoid future financial tussles in case of divorce or in the event of death. It will make it simpler to claim inheritance or child or spousal support, and to divide assets in a fair manner.

Condoms and Contraceptives

Standard

Nothing is mentioned in the Scriptures about birth control methods. However, it does address fornication and adultery, which are the main reasons people need a means to prevent pregnancy.

“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for Yahweh’s holy people.” Ephesians 5:3

“Kill, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature; sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.” Colossians 3:5

“You shall not commit adultery.” Exodus 20:14

“Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for Yahweh will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” Hebrews 13:4

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:27-28

Adultery and sexual immorality are clearly different things. Adultery refers to extramarital sex, while sexual immorality refers to fornication or sex before marriage.

Condoms, the diaphragm, implants, IUDs (intrauterine devices), contraceptive pills and injections, and morning after pills are the most common forms of birth control.

Some women opt for a hysterectomy, as a way of ensuring they never conceive; while men may choose to have a vasectomy:

Definition of hysterectomy: a surgical operation to remove all or part of the uterus.

Definition of vasectomy: a surgical procedure for male sterilisation or permanent contraception. During the procedure, the male vas deferens are severed and then tied or sealed in a manner so as to prevent sperm from entering into the urethra and thereby prevent fertilisation.

These procedures are mutilations of one’s body.

BIRTH CONTROL DEVICES ARE PROMOTED UNDER THE GUISE OF ‘SAFE SEX’, BUT IN REALITY ALL THEY DO IS ENCOURAGE PROMISCUITY.

The only person one should have sexual intercourse with is the one to whom they are married. Self-control and self-respect are essential to the purity of the body and the soul.

A woman was required to be a virgin on her wedding night:

“If a man takes a wife and, after sleeping with her, dislikes her and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, ‘I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity,’ then the young woman’s father and mother shall bring to the town elders at the gate proof that she was a virgin. Her father will say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he dislikes her. Now he has slandered her and said, ‘I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.’ But here is the proof of my daughter’s virginity.’ Then her parents shall display the cloth* before the elders of the town, and the elders shall take the man and punish him. They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the young woman’s father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.

If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done an outrageous thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from among you.” Deuteronomy 22:13-21

* On their wedding night, a newly married couple made love on a pure white sheet. When the woman’s hymen was broken, she bled on this sheet which was then taken to her parents as proof of her virginity.

A married couple should not abstain from making love to prevent pregnancy:

“The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.” 1 Corinthians 3-5

Since a woman gets pregnant when she is ovulating, this is the only time they should avoid having sex.

Onan, Judah’s son, practised the ‘withdrawal method’ while making love to his brother Er’s widow, and God killed him because of this:

“Then Judah said to Onan, ‘Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your brother.’ But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. What he did was wicked in Yahweh’s Eyes; so Yahweh killed him also.” Genesis 38:8-10

Before that, Yahweh had killed Er for refusing to make love to his wife Tamar. Both men were following their mother Shuah’s instructions. Shuah was a Canaanite and she rejected Tamar as a daughter-in-law because she was a Hebrew. Judah had chosen Tamar as a wife for Er (Genesis 38:6)

The Scriptures also forbid sex with a woman who is menstruating:

“When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening.” Leviticus 15:19

“If a man has sexual relations with her and her monthly flow touches him, he will be unclean for seven days; any bed he lies on will be unclean. When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a time other than her monthly period or has a discharge that continues beyond her period, she will be unclean as long as she has the discharge, just as in the days of her period.” Leviticus 15:24-25

“When she is cleansed from her discharge, she must count off seven days, and after that she will be ceremonially clean.” Leviticus 15:28

Red hair is synonymous with the Scarlet Woman that Satanist/Freemason Aleister Crowley identified as the goddess of his religion, Thelema (Babalon or Semiramis, Queen of Babylon and the Whore of Babylon, is the goddess of Thelema). The Scarlet Woman represents the female sexual impulse and liberated woman. Red hair is also traditionally associated with prostitutes:

Is abortion murder?

Standard

For centuries, women have been terminating pregnancies in the early stages. This cruel and evil practice has continued to date, and although it is considered a controversial subject that many debate on daily, the answer is plain and simple: ABORTION IS MURDER.

Definition of abortion: the ending of pregnancy by removing a foetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus

There are various reasons used to justify abortion — pre-teen or teenage pregnancy; hampering of one’s career; pregnancy while in college/university; financially unprepared; unwillingness to enter single motherhood; shame of having a child out of wedlock; reminder of the baby’s father after the end of a relationship; rape; not wanting children…

The sixth commandment states:

“You shall not kill.” Exodus 20:13.

A child is a gift. Life begins at conception — once the egg cell fuses with the sperm cell, a zygote is formed and filled with the soul and spirit of that being that has been created.

Whether or not you are prepared to have a child, the decision to kill that baby is not yours to make. All life comes from heaven, Almighty Yahweh the Living God is the ONLY one with the power and right to give and take life. Murder is a sin and all who sin will be punished (see The Second Commandment).

If you fall pregnant unexpectedly and feel psychologically incapable of having a child or carrying a pregnancy to term, counselling will help you cope.

If you are financially unstable, request for help from friends and relatives, or the government.

If you are underage, ask relatives to help raise your child until you are of age and able.

If you have been raped, seek counselling, and however painful it may be to have that child in your life, remember it is also a part of you.

If you have been raped by a relative — which makes it incest — the child is a part of you.

If a relationship has ended and you are unwilling to have a constant reminder of your ex, keep in mind that the child is also a reminder of wonderful you.

Having a child out of wedlock is nothing to be ashamed of, you should be more fearful of offending God.

If a woman who is mentally or physically impaired is raped, the child can be cared for by her next of kin.

If you never planned to have children, that was your plan, not God’s plan.

Some people consider giving up their baby for adoption, but adoption is wrong — your child is your blood and your blood is what makes you unique; your blood is your life. Your baby belongs with you, not with a stranger.

Suicide and Euthanasia

Standard

As human beings, we may sometimes feel depressed and think that life isn’t worth living. The feeling of despair and hopelessness, or suffering from an incurable or very painful illness, can sometimes lead to the desire to end one’s life.

However, no matter how despondent you feel as a result of emotional trauma, mental anguish or physical discomfort, ending your own life is a sin. This is called suicide:

Definition of suicide: the act or an instance of killing oneself intentionally

Sometimes, when a loved one is in the throes of agony from a sickness without cure, we may feel it best to end their torment by facilitating their premature demise. This is known as euthanasia or assisted killing:

Definition of euthanasia: the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma

The Scriptures forbid murder or senseless killing (as opposed to self-defense or war), and suicide and euthanasia fall into this category.

The sixth commandment is:

“You shall not kill.” Exodus 20:13.

The Scriptures record several suicides:

Saul, Israel’s first king (1 Samuel 31:4), Saul’s armour bearer (1 Samuel 31:5), Ahithophel, King David’s counselor, Zimri, King of Israel (1 Kings 16:15:20), Judas, one of Master Yahshua’s twelve disciples (Matthew 27:3-5).

There are many reasons why people choose to end their lives — financial ruin; loss of a spouse, friend, child or relative; a wrecked reputation; a terminal disease; job loss; incarceration, failure to achieve a certain goal, an uncontrollable addiction; rape; exposure of intimate photographs or videos; bullying; peer pressure; feelings of inadequacy; end of a relationship; divorce; loneliness; guilt; shame…

Whatever it may be, it is against Almighty Yahweh, the Living God’s decrees to make that decision. Our lives are not our own to take:

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

If you take your own life, there is no hope for salvation and eternal life. The wages of sin are death — spiritual death that leads to an eternity in hell. Despite the agony you may be experiencing, the best thing to do is persevere, pray, and confide in someone you trust… there’s always someone willing to listen.

Don’t isolate yourself or spend hours thinking about whatever is troubling you. You will never find the light if you remain in darkness.

Don’t convince yourself that no one cares about you or your problems.

Keep busy and be optimistic.

Do things that make you feel happy, eat your favourite foods, go for a walk.

If you’re confined to bed, read a book, rest and yes, have a good cry once in a while, but don’t sink to the level of self-pity and self-loathing.

Let your friends and family know that you need company and comfort.

If you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, let nature takes its course and hold on however painful it may get.

If you feel lonely, unwanted or unloved, remember that God loves you and wants the best for you.

If you have suddenly gone blind, deaf, lost a limb or been irreversibly scarred, remember that life goes on… you just have to adjust. Self-acceptance is the key to overcoming obstacles.
